David Price - Percussion

David Price read music at Durham University and received a Polish Government Scholarship to continue his studies with Stanislaw Skoczynski at the Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw. He spent three years there specialising in solo percussion performance and music theatre.

In 1999 Dave won a place at the European Percussion Academy - part of the Aix-en- Provence International Festival, one of fourteen young percussionists invited to work intensively with the leading French exponents of new percussion music including Trio Le Cercle, Les Percussionions du Strasbourg, Djamchid Chemirani and Ensemble Intercontemporain.

He performs as a soloist and with several ensembles, appearing regularly at festivals in the UK and abroad. He has worked closely with composers in the development of new works for percussion and recorded as a soloist for BBC Radio 3. Dave is widely regarded for his talent and versatility across diverse genres of music and styles of playing. His interests have drawn him to research many instruments and performance techniques from all around the world which he applies in a wide range of contexts from classical music to ...???

Since 2003 he has worked with the pop group aqualung with whom he recorded the album "Still Life". Plans for this year include tours of Japan and The USA.

Dave is a member of Clown Revisited - a jazz quintet featuring the music of pianist Nick Ramm which is part of the groundbreaking F-IRE Collective.

Dave also works with Gecko, a new theatre company whose first production "Taylors Dummies" attracted tremendous public interest and widespread critical acclaim. Last year the show was featured at several international theatre festivals and toured - with the support of the British Council - to Colombia, Mexico, Turkey, Serbia, Ireland, Spain and Sarajivo.

Dave is also active as a composer having created music for numerous theatre productions and three short films with digital artist Carl Stevenson. He is currently working on a suite of pieces for Noszferatu called "Lee Games". Part one was recently premiered in London in BMIC's Cutting Edge Concert Series 2004. Future plans include works for organ and a multimedia piece for percussion group EKPIRI in Warsaw.

Other projects this year include working with new folk group Bellowhead, rising jazz singer Gwyneth Herbert, cosmic jazz group 2 Banks of 4 and new art punk Kyra De Connick.
